For Georgia's Pilpani: We will propose effective methods if GD truly dares to fight corruption
“If the Georgian Dream truly dares to fight corruption, we will propose correct, effective methods,” said Vika Pilpani, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party at the plenary.
Speaking about the Eagle Hills project, Pilpani remarked that there was a significant risk of corruption associated with Arab investments, though she also emphasised that such investments should be welcomed into the country.
“The government’s activities may be transparent when the Prime Minister proudly says that the government published all its decrees and fights against corruption, but he has Kakha Kaladze as Tbilisi Mayor and conceals the 6.5 billion investment agreement’s conditions and the benefit that the country may expect, while the main asset is the state property, which is unique.
Several days ago, you mandated that citizens must register every tetri sent to their family members by migrants. A year prior, you demanded transparency from organisations and donors regarding the funds used for dialysis equipment in the region, as well as for rescue services and education.
The questions are acute since the land, which will be handed over to investors, is of state significance; one is located on the seashore and the other is a forest park of ecological importance for Tbilisi and Rustavi. Since 2010, this territory belonged to the church and in 2019, the government actively advocated for the creation of a recreational zone. As it seems, the government abandoned this project and the fate of Tbilisi’s near best territory remains unclear,” she said.
Vika Pilpani stated that Georgian citizens are calling for greater transparency regarding investment conditions, especially as the Georgian Dream government continues to arrest former high-ranking officials on corruption charges. If the Georgian Dream truly dares to tackle corruption, we will propose proper, effective measures that will eliminate it entirely.
“Currently, we only see hiding traces of corruption in the case of laundering hundreds of millions of GEL, and instead of solving such large-scale corruption schemes in national institutions, the Kobakhidze-Kaladze group is fighting corruption among school teachers.
I urge you to provide answers to the citizens if everything is in the best interests of the state, there is no corruption involved, and the investment in that territory will ultimately benefit the country. Please clarify which project is being implemented, the terms of the agreement, the price, the conditions, and the benefits for all parties involved.
We remind you that the territories in question belong to every citizen, and this gives us the right to ask questions and seek understanding of what advantages the state will gain from this,” said Pilpani.
