For Georgia's MP Sharashidze: Yesterday's rally confirmed that street protest alone cannot be principal instrument of political change

“Yesterday confirmed that street protest alone cannot be the principal instrument of change in government, and that alongside peaceful protest, political instruments must also be deployed,” MP Giorgi Sharashidze, a member of the Gakharia For Georgia party, told GPB First Channel.

According to Sharashidze, the struggle against the Georgian Dream regime can only yield results if this approach is adopted.

“Everyone has their own path, and we intend to fight by ours. From the very outset, we put a question to the boycotters: what was their plan after the boycott? They had no answer to that question then, and they have none today, which is regrettable. If they have changed their position, it must be stated with clarity and precision, rather than through the sort of confusion we are witnessing within the alliance. They must explain why they supported the boycott and what has changed. That is for them to account for. If, a few months ago, participation in elections meant betrayal, what has changed today? We support as many groups as possible participating in the elections, but each must take responsibility for their own actions. They owe the electorate an explanation: if something has changed, why has it changed, and what exactly has changed. They must also answer whether they accept responsibility for what they have already done, and here I mean the October 4 rally. Even from where I stand, their positions remain murky and unclear,” Sharashidze declared.
