For Georgia’s MP Sharashidze affirms support for any Synod’s decision in patriarchal elections

“We will respect any decision made by the Synod and extend our congratulations to the new Patriarch on his election,” stated MP Giorgi Sharashidze, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party.

Sharashidze emphasised that anyone attempting to interfere bears responsibility for their actions. Gakharia for Georgia dissociates itself from any such interference.

“We are awaiting the decision of the Synod. Any ruling they make will be acceptable to us. No one has the right to interfere in the process of reaching this decision. Therefore, we will accept whatever decision the Synod reaches and congratulate the newly elected Patriarch.

Anyone can attempt interference, but they must bear the consequences. We reject any such attempts outright. I also do not consider Shalva Papuashvili’s statement to be neutral; it appears to reflect certain interests. It does not matter which position he supports. What is important is that he is trying to influence this process and establish a particular stance.

For us, it is entirely unacceptable to exploit this process for personal political gain, regardless of the motives. I would advise everyone to remain neutral and await the decision of the Synod,” Sharashidze concluded.
