For Georgia’s MP Parulava: Under GD, no security chief is guaranteed tenure; Geladze’s departure follows Mdinaradze’s dismissal

“Geka Geladze’s departure from the State Security Service is a direct continuation of Mamuka Mdinaradze’s dismissal, signalling a wider purge that may soon swallow other top officials,” stated MP Giga Parulava, a member of the For Georgia party.

Parulava emphasised that replacing the Head of the State Security Service every six to seven months severely undermines national security and institutional stability.

“Under Georgian Dream, no official has any guarantee that they will retain their post for any given duration. Whether it happens today or tomorrow morning, these people may be forced to step down, not by their own choice, but because the decision has been made for them. Geka Geladze’s resignation is simply a continuation of Mamuka Mdinaradze being ousted, and various other officials could well be next. Let’s wait and see who follows.

Replacing the Head of the State Security Service every six to seven months, amidst no unified strategic vision, impacts national security and the country’s broader interests negatively. This volatility is deeply damaging both to the institution itself and to the core national security interests of the state,” Parulava stated.

Geka Geladze has stepped down from his position as Head of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSGS). According to Geladze, following consultations with the ruling political leadership, he will transition to another state agency.
