For Georgia's MP Khvedeliani: Ex-President Saakashvili should serve his sentence where he committed crime
“Mikheil Saakashvili was kept in greenhouse conditions, and there was an unprecedented level of special treatment towards him, given that the country has many political prisoners and he was held under different circumstances,” stated MP Tata Khvedeliani, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party, in response to the remarks made by Mykhailo Podolyak, an advisor to the Ukrainian President’s Office.
Podolyak had claimed that bringing Mikheil Saakashvili to Ukraine aligns with their agenda and urged Georgian authorities to permit his transfer for medical treatment, if not to Ukraine, then at least to another country.
“The fact that Mikheil Saakashvili has been moved to the penitentiary facility is a positive step. It is up to the appropriate authorities to decide whether he would be transferred or sent to Ukraine or elsewhere. He should serve his sentence in the country where the crime was committed. It is laughable to blame another country for the fact that the former president was essentially held in a milk container and then sent to Georgia,” Khvedeliani remarked.
