For Georgia's Buchukuri: Reject visa-free suspension but emphasize need for individual responsibility

“We reject and alienate from the suspension of visa-free travel but emphasize the need for individual responsibility for those who put the country in a difficult situation,” said Ana Buchukuri, the Gakharia For Georgia party member.

According to Buchukuri, personal sanctions have become one of the mildest ways to address the crisis.

“Our team has always approached sanctions with caution. We were careful from the start because sanctions can have negative consequences. Unfortunately, instead of using elections to ease the crisis, Ivanishvili resorted to violence, illegal arrests, and attacks on opponents, including journalists. This has only deepened the crisis.

While we categorically reject the suspension of visa-free travel—which would unfairly impact all Georgian citizens—those responsible must be held accountable through targeted sanctions. These sanctions are inevitable,” she stated.

Buchukuri also criticized the ruling party’s stance.

“For the Georgian Dream, national interests seem to be worthless. Their reaction to the personal financial sanctions process in the UK has been hysterical. Now they pretend everything is fine, but their panic speaks for itself,” she added.

Regarding calls to recognize Salome Zourabichvili as Georgia’s legitimate president, Buchukuri stated that the resolution remains a draft: “It’s premature to discuss it. Unfortunately, Georgia currently lacks a president with full powers.”
