FM: Unfortunately, Brussels repeatedly interfered in Georgia's internal affairs
“Recently, we have seen that, unfortunately, Brussels has repeatedly interfered in internal matters, and Georgia stands as the best example of this,” Foreign Minister of Georgia Maka Botchorishvili stated on Imedi TV.
According to the Minister, this interference was carried out bluntly, significantly damaging Georgia’s relations with the European Union and Brussels.
In the same vein, Botchorishvili also highlighted the EU’s attitude towards the United States.
“When it comes to the United States of America, the message from EU bureaucracy is entirely different, and a different stance is adopted,” she said.
This, she said, reflects the “sad reality in which Brussels finds itself today”.
The Minister once again reaffirmed Georgia’s European identity and its principled desire to join the European Union.
“We are a European country. Our position has always been that if we wish, and we do wish, to be part of the European Union, which is the face of today’s Europe, then naturally, our heartfelt hope is for the EU to be strong and for it to be the kind of union we aspire to join,” the minister said.
While acknowledging that recent developments within the EU are difficult to observe, Botchorishvili expressed hope that relations will improve.
“We trust that things will change and that Brussels will no longer ignore reality,” she concluded.
