FM Maka Botchorishvili emphasises Georgia’s role in regional connectivity amid Ukraine’s effort to normalise relations
“The context in which the Ukrainian side is being mobilised centres on Georgia’s role in regional connectivity and the needs of the countries within our broader neighbourhood,” stated Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili during Imedi’s Kvira programme.
“Today, many nations seek relations with Georgia, which is entirely natural. It is not excluded that Ukraine shares similar needs. Consequently, it is easy to understand why they are eager to normalise relations with Georgia at this time,” Botchorishvili added.
The Foreign Minister also addressed the evolving rhetoric from the European Union.
“I am confident that behind the scenes and in private conversations, everyone is acutely aware of how unjust the previous stance towards Georgia was. We observe a shift in rhetoric; even in criticism, a difference is perceptible. However, when faced with unfair attitudes, unrealistic comments, resolutions, and actions, it is challenging to turn all this around overnight or to forget it instantly. We recognise that change takes time, though a certain momentum is emerging. I hope we will reach a point where this attitude shifts through our actions, not just words,” concluded Maka Botchorishvili.
