“Even if I had a meeting with the UK Minister of State for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories, what is the sensational aspect of it? However, it was not a meeting but a telephone conversation,” stated Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili.
In response to a question about her discussion with the UK Minister of State, Maka Botchorishvili explained that engaging in phone conversations with ministers from various countries is standard diplomatic practice.
“Naturally, I have had, and continue to have, telephone conversations with various ministers. When information is not made public, it is because of the sensitive nature of the conversation’s content between the parties. If you are interested in what the specific focus of this conversation was, I can tell you: on the one hand, it involved Britain recognising the occupation of two regions of our country after 17 years. The discussion also touched on sanctions, including Georgia’s successful efforts to ensure that our country is not used to evade them.
I do not believe there is anything particularly sensational or of special importance in these two topics. Whether this information is made public or not does not alter anything for Georgian society. As for the spread of falsehoods regarding the meeting, you should ask those who disseminated such information without verification,” said Maka Botchorishvili.
