FM Botchorishvili: We need open dialogue with the EU on all contentious issues; Georgia has strengthened state institutions and peace
“When enlargement policy is highlighted, and Georgia is invited, it signals an interest in Brussels and the EU to hear Georgia’s perspective,” Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Botchorishvili stated.
“When enlargement policy is prioritised, and Georgia is invited, it means there is an interest in Brussels, within the European Union, to listen to Georgia to some degree. This was a good opportunity for the Prime Minister of Georgia, and the invitation was utilised to participate in an event organised by Euronews dedicated to EU enlargement.
While the format does not allow for every issue to be covered, the Georgian delegation addressed all the questions raised. Crucially, the Prime Minister has clearly articulated Georgia’s stance on dialogue. We need an open conversation with the European Union on every issue that the EU perceives as problematic or considers important in this process. The Georgian side reiterated its readiness to engage in dialogue with the EU on any item that may arise on our bilateral agenda,” Botchorishvili said.
Furthermore, Botchorishvili added that Georgia has enacted legislation aimed at strengthening state institutions and safeguarding national peace and stability.
“Look at what is happening across many European cities today and the growing questions regarding institutional resilience. Let us ask any member state whether Europe, the EU, or any individual nation requires strong institutions, including robust law enforcement agencies, to guarantee stability. So when we speak of foundational principles, look at ongoing events and consider how much Georgia, like any other country, needs resilient institutions. We did everything necessary at the legislative level when Parliament passed laws required to maintain our country’s stability, ensure institutional strength, and ultimately preserve peace in our nation,” the Foreign Minister added.
