Speaker Papuashvili: Georgia seeks inter-parliamentary engagement involving all five Central Asian states
“Georgia has discussed mutually beneficial cooperation with the President of Kyrgyzstan to enhance economic prosperity for both nations,” Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili stated.
He added that Georgia will continue supporting Kyrgyzstan in international forums.
“During the meeting with the President of Kyrgyzstan, our discussions focused on bilateral relations. Following the Georgian Prime Minister’s maiden visit to Kyrgyzstan this summer, we look forward to a reciprocal visit by the Kyrgyz President next year. We addressed mutually beneficial cooperation aimed at advancing the well-being of both our peoples,” Papuashvili said.
“The planned construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway will form an integral link of the Middle Corridor. Expanding the capacity of and interest in the Middle Corridor is of key importance to us. We also discussed the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, which is being constructed under a landlord port model; the state is constructing the port infrastructure, after which entities can lease terminal operations. I am confident Kyrgyzstan will show strong interest in this regard,” the Speaker added.
Papuashvili noted that the talks also covered mutual backing within international organisations.
“Kyrgyzstan was recently elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, an election in which they enjoyed our support. We intend to maintain this collaborative spirit across other multilateral bodies. We also explored inter-parliamentary cooperation, including regional initiatives. Georgia is keen to see dialogue formats established that engage all five Central Asian nations, their parliaments, and parliamentary speakers, providing a platform to address shared priorities,” Papuashvili concluded.
