FM: Attitudes of some countries, including EU member states, limit our ability to make decisions, creating further threats for Georgia
“Georgia stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, supports international norms, and upholds the territorial integrity and sovereignty of both Georgia and Ukraine. We shall, of course, remain steadfast in this position,” declared Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Botchorishvili, speaking in Moldova.
Botchorishvili commented on why Georgia did not join the resolution of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on the establishment of a special tribunal for Russia’s crimes committed in Ukraine.
According to Botchorishvili, Georgia’s stance remains firm and unwavering in its support for Ukraine.
“As regards the decision taken within the framework of the Council of Europe, the attitude of certain member states towards Georgia, including EU member states, does not, of course, afford us the possibility or the luxury of taking decisions that would create additional risks and threats to our country, and that could place Georgia in the face of heightened risks or challenges.
The attitude we are observing from certain member states today truly calls for urgent reconsideration. Clarity is needed as to what position exists regarding Georgia and its stances, for we bear a very great responsibility towards our society, and above all towards preserving security, calm, and stability within the country,” declared Maka Botchorishvili.
For reference, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe has adopted a decision on the establishment of a special tribunal for Russia’s crimes committed in Ukraine.
