An evening dedicated to the music of Georgian composer Davit Toradze was held for the first time at the Franco Zeffirelli Foundation Hall in Florence, Italy. The event was organized by the Lekso Toradze Foundation with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Georgia and the Embassy of Georgia in Italy, the Ministry of Culture reported.
According to the ministry, the aim of the project is to popularize Toradze’s work and to promote Georgian music on the international stage.
The Minister of Culture of Georgia, Tinatin Rukhadze, attended the event as part of her working visit to Italy.
The concert featured Toradze’s classical compositions along with his renowned film scores, which hold a distinguished place in the Golden Fund of Georgian cinema.
Prominent Georgian musicians took part in the evening, including Giorgi Andghuladze, Keti Melua, Iano Alibegashvili, Nato Metonidze, Lela Mchedlidze, Levan Deisadze, Dimitri Sakandelidze, and the Meko Kavtaradze Youth Chapel. The Scarlatti Orchestra, conducted by Nika Nikvashvili, accompanied the performance.
The ministry notes the special contribution of Giorgi Andghuladze, whose initiative and support made it possible to host the concert at the Zeffirelli House Museum and to collaborate with the Domenico Scarlatti Orchestra free of charge.
In parallel with the concert, an exhibition of Georgian national costumes and accessories was held in the foyer of the Zeffirelli Foundation.
“It is very important how a country presents itself to the world. In Florence, which is regarded as the Mecca of world art, we presented ourselves with high-level professional music, our best artistic heritage, excellent performers, musicians and orchestra. This language needs no translation; it warms the heart and opens the country’s path to the world,” said Minister Rukhadze.
The evening was attended by local officials, representatives of the arts community, members of the Georgian diaspora and other high-ranking guests.
