First Vice Speaker Volski views Helsinki Commission meeting with opposition leaders as "regrettable"

“I would not even call it regrettable what Salome Zourabichvili and Tina Khidasheli are doing. This is disregard of the motherland and political principles and represents the country’s treason,” said First Vice Speaker Gia Volski.

According to Volski, opposition representatives seek economic war and military confrontation.

“They cannot answer the main question – what they plan in relations with Russia if they come to power. The response is that they seek economic war and military confrontation. There is no other plan but this. The meeting of the Helsinki Commission aims to shape leaders from former president Salome Zourabichvili and opposition member Tina Khidasheli, such leaders, who will confront their own country. They know nothing about resources or the stance of these individuals,” he said.

The U.S. Helsinki Commission will hold a hearing on September 10 titled “From Partner to Problem: Georgia’s Anti-American Turn.”

According to the Commission, invited witnesses include President Salome Zourabichvili, Tinatin Khidasheli, former Minister of Defense of Georgia, and Luke Coffey, senior fellow, Center on Europe and Eurasia, Hudson Institute.
