First Vice Speaker denounces alleged visa-free suspension for Georgia as "dishonest" move
“For many years, the opposition has openly campaigned against us and has not hidden the existence of lists, such as those compiled by Grigol Gelelia from the Lelo party and presented in Brussels, instructing European politicians on whom to sanction,” remarked Gia Volski, First Vice Speaker.
Volski argued that the suspension of visa-free travel forms part of the opposition’s strategy to inflict political and economic damage on the country while inciting public outrage.
He recalled the fluctuations of the national currency and the opposition’s fantastical promises of GEL 1,000 pensions, among other unsubstantiated claims.
“Procedurally, suspending visa-free travel is no small feat, as the EU would need to amend its regulations. Furthermore, such a decision would be dishonest toward a candidate country that excels in all areas compared to others.
We observe that the global landscape is shaped not by facts but by the particular trends adhered to by certain political factions. The existence of a Deep State is a reality that affects more than just Georgia,” he commented.
Volski acknowledged that migration remains a significant issue, suggesting that if restrictions were to be implemented, the visa regime would need to be tightened for 61 countries to prevent those without visa-free access from entering the European space through them.
“It should not be the case that one faction of EU countries decides significant issues while others oppose them. Such a divide among European nations undermines the very essence of European structures, which is to promote coordination and arrive at a consensus.
The directive of the Deep State is so inflexible that some cannot refrain from expressing a bold stance. Rather than engaging in internal consultation, they openly declare that this matter should be resolved according to directives from the administration rather than the will of European voters.
The European bureaucracy has a specific agenda, and this goal seems to justify all means. A minority of European countries cannot impose a decision on the majority; the essence of the EU lies in consensus, transparency, and fairness. Ultimately, this will lead to negative repercussions sooner or later,” Volski concluded.
