First theatrical performance of Nart sagas held in Georgian and Ossetian languages

The Shota Rustaveli Cinema and Theater State University hosted the first theatrical performance of Nart sagas (a series of tales originating from the North Caucasus).

Young actors participate in the play. The theater version was created in summer of 2018 at the initiative of Caucasus Mosaic, which has been functioning as an initiative group since 1990 and has conducted a number of humanitarian, social, cultural and educational projects.

Publication of an illustrated and adapted version for children in 2017 preceded the idea. According to Naira Bepieva, Head of Caucasus Mosaic, the play serves continuation of the peace initiative.

“Georgian and Ossetian youngsters are involved in the play. I believe that it will be yet another example of mutual cooperation between Georgians and Ossetians,” she said.

Tamar Khizanishvili, Director of the play said that the play was a certain peace message. “The Nart sagas serves new steps of Georgian-Ossetian relations and will be a message of peace to Ossetians,” Khizanishvili claimed.

The European Union (EU) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) supported the implementation of the project within the framework of Confidence Building Early Response Mechanism (COBERM), impartial and flexible programme funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme.
