Autumn Session of Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) to be opened today.
The Georgian parliamentary delegation, headed by the Vice Speaker of the Parliament Tamar Chugoshvili, will take part in the PACE Session.
According to Tamar Chugoshvili, during the session, the Georgian side will clearly state its negative position on the return of the Russian delegation to the Council of Europe.
This morning the Georgian side will hold consultations with Ukraine, Poland and the Baltic states on how the countries opposing the return of the Russian delegation to the Council of Europe, will appeal to the Council of Europe.
Also, Georgia and these states plan not to participate in the celebrations dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
According to Tamar Chugoshvili, during the visit, they will focus on the problems that come from the Russian Federation towards Georgia and Ukraine.
During the previous PACE, The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) voted for the resolution to make it possible for Russia to return to the chamber. A total of 118 parliamentarians agreed to welcome Russia back into PACE, 62 members voted against and 10 – abstained. The vote took place early on June 25 following debate during PACE’s opening summer session in Strasbourg.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe deprived the Russian delegation of its voting rights in the body over the annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea region in March 2014.
