Eyewitness speaks about today's car collision incident at Patriarchate

An employee of the Patriarchate has spoken about today’s incident, in which a car crashed into the Patriarchate courtyard.

According to the witness, the collision caused the Patriarchate’s gates to come down.

The Patriarchate employee recounts that the driver of the vehicle was aggressive, hurling bottles and shouting abuse.

“A taxi drove straight in, demolished the gates, and crashed into an employee’s car. We were inside the building. It was an extremely violent impact. Just imagine, the gates came straight down. The driver got out of the car, was hurling abuse and throwing bottles. We later learned that he may have had mental health problems,” the Patriarchate employee stated.

A car drove into the courtyard of the Georgian Patriarchate earlier today. As a result of the incident, the Patriarchate’s gates have been destroyed, and the barrier ripped away.

Police have detained the driver of the vehicle. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, an investigation is underway under Article 187 of the Criminal Code, which covers the damage or destruction of property.
