Ex-President Zourabichvili announces preparations for Georgia’s Independence Day
Former President Salome Zourabichvili has announced that preparations are underway for Georgia’s Independence Day on May 26.
She also revealed that the Resistance Platform has established a commission open to “all resistance forces.”
Commenting on recent developments, Zourabichvili stated that the latest repressive actions reflect the regime’s inability to manage the situation and appear to be driven by a desire for self-preservation.
“Searches and raids are inconceivable in a normal country, but we have not considered ourselves a normal country for a long time. The recent repression highlights the regime’s failure to cope with the circumstances and its instinct to cling to power. Every day demonstrates that the regime cannot suppress protests. It is neither capable of intimidating the people nor of consolidating itself from within. We see the tremors intensify. People are leaving or relocating from the front lines in various ways: some individuals closely allied with the regime are withdrawing from the game. This is a sign of instability, signalling that the regime is nearing its end,” she said.
Zourabichvili also expressed her belief that sanctions are particularly effective against top-ranking officials.
“Sanctions have a serious impact on those who have amassed significant wealth, especially on individuals who are now isolated, unable to utilize their accumulated assets. We will provide detailed information on this to keep the public informed,” she added.
