Ex-president Zourabichvili announces formation of May 26 preparatory committee
“We are beginning to work with various representatives of society to establish a preparatory committee for May 26,” former President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili announced at a recent briefing.
Zourabichvili emphasised the importance of this initiative, especially in light of the current threats to the country’s independence posed by an illegitimate government (implying the GD government).
“Another issue we discussed, and on which we are starting to collaborate with various representatives of society, is the creation of a preparatory committee for May 26. Our goal is to plan a May 26 (Independence Day of Georgia) event not only for our platform but for the entire society. This is a collective celebration of our nation’s independence, meant for everyone.
At a time when this independence is threatened by an illegitimate government and the ruling team, we must defend it—particularly in the place where we traditionally celebrate, on Rustaveli Avenue. Together, we will organise this event, involving representatives from different segments of society,” Zourabichvili stated.
