Former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has been discharged from the Vivamedi Clinic to the penitentiary institution N12, the Special Penitentiary Service reported in a statement.

“As is publicly known, on May 12, 2022, convicted Mikheil Saakashvili was transferred to Vivamedi Clinic for inpatient medical care, where he has remained to receive appropriate treatment.

In accordance with Georgian legislation, the transfer of a patient from a civilian hospital back to a penitentiary institution is carried out based on the medical opinion of the treating doctor, taking into account the patient’s health condition.

Since the health status of convicted Mikheil Saakashvili is now satisfactory and he no longer requires inpatient care, he has been discharged from the civilian clinic and returned to Penitentiary Institution N12, where he will continue serving his sentence under standard conditions,” the statement from the Special Penitentiary Service reads.
