European Integration Committee Chair views adopting document on Georgia's future as significant

“Significantly, the chairs of the parliamentary foreign committees of EU member states adopted a document which speaks about Georgia’s European future and opening negotiations for accession,” said Maka Botchorishvili, Chair of the Georgian European Integration Committee.

According to Maka Botchorishvili, this was the last parliamentary meeting under Belgium’s chairmanship, as European elections would be the main issue for EU member states in the next 2-3 weeks. Therefore, the Georgian delegation spared no effort not to leave these issues disregarded by the European colleagues.

The Chair of the Georgian European Integration Committee stressed that discussions in Brussels were interesting to know how European colleagues viewed the EU enlargement in the security context.

“It is significant that the EU member states parliaments provide relevant support for Georgian issues as they are the ones who make decisions regarding the enlargement. It is crucial to cooperate with our colleagues and gain their support in such formats,” she said.
