European Integration Committee Chair believes Trump's letter should translate into new policy
“The U.S. President’s letter is a positive first step; however, it must be translated into a new policy,” Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee, stated.
According to Makhashvili, the strategic partnership should be articulated through the establishment of a clear “roadmap.”
“I would not overestimate or undermine the letter since this is still a significant document when the U.S. President congratulates the Georgian President on Independence Day. I hope that the letter will end the pointless political propaganda on recognition or non-recognition.
On the other hand, I would emphasize that this is the first good step, which should be translated into a new policy – the first move in the process of resetting bilateral relations. The Georgian Prime Minister stated in his letter that the revision of relations should be demonstrated through tangible steps, while the strategic partnership should be articulated by establishing a clear roadmap and mutually agreed-upon activities,” he said.
President Donald Trump of the United States sent a congratulatory letter to President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Georgia’s Independence Day. In the letter, published by the Georgian President’s press office, Trump emphasized his administration’s commitment to strengthening peaceful and productive relations with the Georgian government.
