EU supports Georgia's foreign policy, notes differences on Russia confrontation, says Vice Speaker

Parliament’s First Vice Speaker, Gia Volski, stated that the European Union has no objections to Georgia’s foreign policy direction but noted that some issues do not fully align, specifically concerning economic and military confrontation with Russia.

According to him, Georgia is a European state that conducts elections following European standards.

“The EU has no objections to our foreign policy. We must acknowledge that certain issues do not align, but this misalignment arises from our reluctance to enter into economic and military confrontation with Russia. We cannot engage in such actions, as they would devastate the country. There are no other significant differences in our approaches. There are additional topics related to LGBTQ rights, where the EU is also quite stringent with us.

Only two countries—Hungary and Slovakia—maintain a principled and significantly more conservative stance on certain values that are generally accepted in the rest of Europe, such as same-sex marriage. Other than this, there are no substantial differences between us.

Georgia is a European state that conducts elections according to European standards, and, most importantly, these elections have not been falsified. When decisions are made with a negative or stringent stance towards Georgia on this issue, it is unjust and stems from political circumstances,” Volski noted.
