“It depends on us to make such prudent decisions that we don’t end up as a pawn in the great geopolitical game, and we are doing everything in this direction,” the European Integration Committee Chair, Levan Makhashvili, told the Georgian Public Broadcaster.

According to Makhashvili, it was expected that major powers would eventually align with each other, leaving smaller countries, including Ukraine, to be sacrificed.

“Today we’re talking about how the world is changing, and it’s changing in a logical direction, which was expected. We anticipated that major powers would ultimately align with each other and, unfortunately, smaller countries would be sacrificed, among them, as it turns out, Ukraine.

In March 2009, eight months after the Russia-Georgia war, America and Russia reset their relations, and today we’re seeing exactly the same thing happening again. We are living witnesses to this history repeating itself within one generation. Having this experience, we approach all decisions regarding the war in Ukraine carefully and prudently.

What we see happening beyond our control are the relations and negotiations between Russia and America. What depends on us is to make such prudent decisions that we don’t end up as a disposable pawn in the great geopolitical game. This depends on us, and we are doing everything in this direction,” noted Makhashvili.
