EU Integration Committee Chair: Georgia's issue active on EU agenda

“Georgia’s issue is more active on the agenda of EU member states than it was last year,” said Maka Botchorishvili, Chairwoman of the Georgian parliamentary European Integration Committee, in Madrid following the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs (COSAC), which brings together the EU affairs committees of national Parliaments, as well as Members of the European Parliament.

According to Maka Botchorishvili, the number of countries speaking aloud that the decision made on Georgia was unfair and was to be corrected has increased.

“Keeping the geopolitical context in mind, Georgia’s significance is stressed, which is a good result, given the last-year talks accentuating that Georgia’s EU integration is significant for the EU enlargement policy and security.

Therefore, we will continue our work till December. It is obvious that the interest of the EU member states has increased, and the positions are much more in favour of Georgia in this case, when it comes to granting Georgia candidate status and catching up with other candidate countries,” she said.
