EU Foreign Affairs Council to discuss Georgia issue on July 15

The EU Council of Foreign Ministers will once again discuss the issue of Georgia on July 15, according to the agenda published on the European Council’s website.

The document notes that EU ministers will exchange views on the current situation in Georgia.

At the previous Council meeting in June, the foreign ministers also addressed developments in Georgia, though no concrete decisions were made.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, stated that the discussions included the arrest of opposition leaders and the possibility of sanctions against those responsible for increasing repression, including members of the judiciary. However, no consensus was reached.

Kallas had previously announced that the Council would revisit the matter in July.
