EU Ambassador: Two legislative initiatives introduced by the ruling party not to help the ongoing negotiation process

The two legislative initiatives introduced by the ruling party do not help the ongoing negotiation process, it causes certain concern to me, EU Ambassador to Georgia, Carl Hartzell said.

According to the EU Ambassador, there is an impression that the initiatives have a very clear direction, towards one of the leading opposition parties in the country.

“I think there are always questions when there is a law on the agenda that has specific goals, but I must also say that such laws will have a broader implication, everyone should think about what significance it will have for the parties in the future,” said Carl Hartzell.

Irakli Kobakhidze, Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream Party announced on December 17 a new bill package that envisages suspending state funding for the boycotting opposition, as well as a set of other measures against the Georgian Dream’s political opponents.
