EU Ambassador: In response to events of last 12 days, all options on table, including visa-free suspension

EU Ambassador to Georgia Pawel Herczynski says “In response to the events of the last 12 days all the options are on the table. This also includes suspension of a visa-free.”

According to the Ambassador, “There is an option to have a suspension of visa-free for certain categories of passports.”

“We have always said that we do not want to harm the population. We don’t want to punish the people who are manifesting their dedication to EU values, who are on the streets of Tbilisi and many other cities, waving Georgian flags and European Union flags. But the authorities who are responsible for the violence and brutality – we cannot keep silent. Member states will discuss it on Monday and hopefully already on Monday, there will be decisions taken.

Georgia for many years had a privileged relationship with European Union. We have offered Georgia association agreement. We have offered Georgia free trade agreements. We have offered Georgia visa-free arrangement. Finally, Georgia was granted membership candidate status. What is happening in the last 12 days is absolutely incompatible with all this, and this privileged relationship that European Union has had with Georgia over the last 10 years needs to be reflected upon. This is precisely what will happen,” Pawel Herczynski told the media.
