EU Ambassador: EC to issue visa suspension report for Georgia in December
“In December, next month, the European Commission will issue a visa suspension report, including for Georgia. This report will be shared with member states, and the member states will discuss and make a decision, which is really something that I don’t want to speculate about,” EU Ambassador to Georgia, Paweł Herczyński, stated.
The Ambassador answered the question about changes in the visa liberalisation mechanism, saying “This is a question that I have been receiving quite often, and I try not to answer this question because I simply don’t want to speculate.”
“There is a new mechanism in place, not only for Georgia, but for all countries that are enjoying visa-free travel to the European Union. In December, the European Commission will issue a visa suspension report, including for Georgia. This report will be shared with member states, and the member states will discuss and make a decision, which is really something that I don’t want to speculate about,” the Ambassador has said.
According to Paweł Herczyński, the European Commission asked Georgian authorities to provide clarifications about the state of implementation of recommendations from the last visa report.
“European Commission has received an answer. As I understand, this answer is not satisfactory, and based on the answer received from the Georgian authorities, a new visa suspension mechanism report will be issued in December. It’ll be shared with member states, and the decision will be taken by member states,” the EU Ambassador answered.
