EU Ambassador: Discussions at EU-Georgia Association Council were held in a family atmosphere
EU Ambassador to Georgia, Pawel Herczynski said he attended the 8th meeting of the EU-Georgia Association Council where discussions were very successful, substantial, open and frank.
“I was there during the 8th EU-Georgia Association Council. It was a very successful meeting, very substantial discussions, very open and frank. The atmosphere was actually like within a family. I am really glad that it was the first time when Georgian representatives visited the EU headquarters, Georgia being a candidate country for EU membership.
What Josep Borrell said was loud and clear that doors to the European Union are open but it is for Georgians to walk through those doors. We all know nine steps. The second step is free and fair elections as well as a free and fair electoral process, of course, we will be monitoring very closely.
We are very satisfied that the Georgian government has decided to send an invitation to OSCE/ODIHR for a long-term observation mission. We sincerely hope that these elections will be conducted in line with the highest international standards so that Georgia’s democracy is stronger and Georgia is better prepared to become a member of the European Union as soon as possible,” he said.
