Torrential rain across the Kakheti region has caused the Telavisakhevi River to burst its banks, severely damaging local irrigation infrastructure. The flash flooding compromised the Matsantsara siphon aqueduct and tore through several sections of the Upper Alazani main canal running through the Telavi area.

According to the press office of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, intensive restoration works are now in full swing. Gigla Tamazashvili, General Director of Georgian Amelioration LLC, visited the disaster zone to inspect the progress of the emergency operations first-hand.

At this stage, crews are working to clear the Upper Alazani main canal of heavy silt, gravel, and debris swept in by the floodwaters. The authorities have mobilised specialist heavy machinery on-site to repair the water management network as quickly as possible and ensure the regional irrigation system remains operational.
