Eka Gigauri, Executive Director of Transparency International (TI) Georgia responded to the statement made by Justice Minister Tea Tsulukiani at Copenhagen International Anti-Corruption Conference based on which Gugauri allegedly participated in violent disperse of a peaceful rally but has not shown up at a court for the time being.
“Nobody stays in the government forever and you will have to apply to me when your rights will be violated,” Gigauri addressed Tsulukiani in a post on Facebook page.
According to Gigauri, the criticism of Justice Minister is “a completely inappropriate attack on the civil sector.” As Gigauri said, Justice Minister damages both herself and the country by gossiping at the international forum.
“Instead of answering the allegations regarding alleged corruption and investigation of specific cases, she continues to attack the civil sector. She ignored us when we were demanding structural reforms in the anti-corruption direction. She did not support the initiative of creating an anti-corruption service, the need for which has been particularly demonstrated by the recent developments. Instead, she is repeating unsubstantiated allegations and actually gossiping at the international forum, which is harmful both for her and the country, which is very sad,” Gigauri said.
Justice Minister Tea Tsulukiani accused Eka Gigauri, Executive Director of Transparency International Georgia, of contributing to the November 7 rally crackdown at the Copenhagen International Anti-Corruption Conference.
