Eka Beselia: Amendments into Law on Broadcasting not contradict any international principle
Eka Beselia, Chairperson of Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee stated that the process of preparation of package of amendments into Law on Broadcasting lasted during a year and nobody could say that had no opportunity to participate in consultation.
Beselia responded to the statement of Transparency International – Georgia and noted that a spacial group had been working for six months, in which International Transparency had its representative, from whom the views were received after the completion of the works.
“The working group did not receive any view or opinion. Later, when the process was already completed, we received suggestion from them only once, discussion over which was held as well. Later, the European Broadcasting Union joined the process, the conclusion of which was supportive and positive. After holding number of sessions, several issues have been adjusted and the version, approved through the second hearing, is directly consented by the European Broadcasting Union. These standards do not contradict any international principle. We should speak with arguments and not with wishes. They should specify which international principle it contradicts, while we have an international conclusion in which it is clearly written that all principles meet the standards of those countries that have good international practice”, – Eka Beselia said.
The Parliament approved the package of amendments proposed to be made into Law on Broadcasting through the second hearing yesterday.
