The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, has inspected the commencement of works on the marine infrastructure at the Anaklia Deep Sea Port.

The dredging operations, along with the design and construction of the breakwater, are being carried out by Jan De Nul N.V., a Belgian firm and a member of the European so-called Big Four.

Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, Irakli Chikovani, accompanied Mariam Kvrivishvili during the visit to the port.

During the inspection, she reviewed the construction area where mobilisation and research activities had already been completed. The necessary rock mass stone blocks for construction have been mobilised, and the X-blocks, essential for building the breakwater, have been produced.

According to the Ministry of Economy, the project involves deepening the seabed at Anaklia to 17.5 metres and constructing a 1,380-metre-long breakwater, which will ensure the port’s operational capacity at an annual utilisation rate of 95%. The development is progressing in accordance with the established plan.
