Economy Minister: Silk Road Forum provides Georgia with opportunity to strengthen its international positioning
Extensive preparatory work has been completed to host more than 2,300 high-ranking guests from 73 countries, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili said after inspecting the venues of the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum and reviewing the preparations.
According to the Economy Ministry, the forum will take place in Tbilisi on October 22–23 and is held every two years under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Georgia. The opening ceremony will be held at the Tbilisi Opera House. In total, seven thematic panel discussions are planned, with the participation of leading political figures and business executives from countries across the region.
According to the Minister, the panel discussions will provide Georgia with another opportunity to present major infrastructure initiatives on the international stage, including the Anaklia Deepwater Port, the new Tbilisi International Airport, ongoing highway construction and other strategic projects aimed at strengthening the national economy and enhancing Georgia’s role in the Middle Corridor.
Kvrivishvili highlighted the participation of Mohamed Ali Alabbar, founder of the UAE-based development group Emaar, whose company Eagle Hills will implement investment projects in Georgia totalling USD 6.5 billion. She noted that Alabbar will give a personal interview as part of the forum, during which the public will receive more information about the ongoing developments.
The Minister also underlined that over the past decade, the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum has become a key platform for political and economic dialogue between countries.
“At the same time, the forum is a major opportunity for Georgia to strengthen its international positioning and to present — with dignity — the significant achievements that deliver results year after year,” Kvrivishvili said.
