The Georgian Economy Minister, Levan Davitashvili, highlighted Georgia’s efforts to become a net exporter of electricity, with strategic projects such as the Black Sea Submarine Cable Project connecting the country to Europe. He noted that Georgia achieved a record-breaking performance in electricity generation this year.

“This is a multibillion-dollar project that will span several years, and the vested interest in this is justified if we have more electricity generation in Georgia. Based on all our forecasts, Georgia may be able to produce additional electricity from renewable sources, which can be exported. We achieved a record generation this year, surpassing 13 billion kWh. The Ministry manages the projects in collaboration with private developers. We can produce more than 13 billion kWh,” Davitashvili stated.

While Turkey is currently the main export market for Georgia, Davitashvili emphasized the importance of diversifying the export market.

He underscored the need for infrastructure development and investments in networks to fully exploit the country’s energy potential. The Minister also highlighted the significance of resuming suspended projects.

“The projects that are currently suspended and are important from an economic and energy standpoint are good projects. If we manage to develop these projects after appropriate studies, we think it will be crucial for the development of the energy sector,” the Minister added.
