Doctors holding rally at MOH, demanding release of detained doctor of Tbilisi Central Hospital
Doctors are holding a protest rally at Georgian Ministry of Health (MOH). They demand the release of detained colleague Vakhtang Kipiani from pre-trial detention.
The members of the Union Of Georgian Medical Associations also demand case reexamination with the involvement of experts. If their demands will not be met, doctors do not rule out a strike.
On August 4, Georgia’s Prosecutor’s Office apprehended Giorgi Lobzhanidze, the director of the Tbilisi Central Hospital, and Vakhtang Kipiani, a doctor of the same clinic for misuse of authority, fraudulence and illegal medical practice.
On August 5, Giorgi Lobzhanidze was released on bail of 100,000 GEL, and Vakhtang Kipiani was sentenced to imprisonment.
On top of that, the third person in the case Magda Khocholava, who is on the run, has been charged in absentia.
According to the investigation, in 2018, a 25-year-old woman underwent surgery at Tbilisi Central Hospital by doctors without a medical license, after which the patient’s condition worsened and she still remains in a coma.
