Dimitris Avramopoulos - Georgian issue not discussed at the ministerial meeting

The Georgian issue has not been discussed at the ministerial meeting in Brussels – Dimitris Avramopoulos, the European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship made this statement in response to the journalist’s question.

Rikard Jozwiak, reporter of Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty asked whether Germany raised the issues of Georgian asylum seekers or visa free regime violations at the meeting of the Internal Affairs Ministers of the EU and whether the suspension mechanism will be activated.

“We keep informed of the case. We have already expressed our concerns with the Government of Georgia. I am in contact with the Government of Georgia. The Government of Georgia is keen to work with us on specific measures to resolve this issue. We are working closely with the Government of Georgia. They will have our support. We will also study the best practices in order to reduce this trend. As I have stated many times, visa liberalization also has liabilities. I am sure that the Georgian government’s strong intention will soon have results “, – Dimitris Avramopoulos said.

As Rikard Jozwiak wrote in his twitter page EU visa experts will return to the Georgian issue on 26 March.
