Dimitri Gabunia claims that he does not know who drawn up list on pardoning
Pardoning is not structurally under my authority, there is a department on pardoning, a curator of which is the deputy head of administration who is specifically engaged with these lists and pardons, – the President’s Parliamentary Secretary Dimitri Gabunia made this statement.
As he noted, he does not know who has drawn up this list, base on which the president pardoned several convicts.
“I was on vacation from August 9 to September 3 and learned about it from the media. There are corresponding department and deputy head of the corresponding administration. I expect the results of the investigation, conducted by the prosecutor’s office, to find out what happened. I am absolutely not involved in this. I declare it with full responsibility”, – Dimitri Gabunia said.
The General Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the pardoning of convicts by President Salome Zourabichvili. According to the agency, the investigation was launched into alleged abuse of power in the pardoning procedure.
President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili pardoned 34 prisoners in connection with Virgin Mary Day on August 28 including three convicts charged for the murder and one person wanted by law enforcers.
