Deputy Tbilisi Mayor: Our pledge to the public stands; Rustaveli Avenue works will wrap up by the end of November

According to Deputy Mayor of Tbilisi Irakli Bendeliani, certain television channels and political party representatives are deliberately spreading false information claiming that Tbilisi City Hall was supposed to complete the rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue in October and failed to do so.

The Deputy Mayor said the disinformation was intended to mislead the public, as November had been set as the deadline for completing the rehabilitation of the avenue from the outset.

“Over the past few days, incorrect information has been deliberately circulated through several television channels claiming that the rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue was not completed within the agreed timeframe. The aim of this is to mislead the public. We want to make it absolutely clear that none of our official comments ever stated that work on Rustaveli Avenue would be completed in October; the same TV channels now spreading this claim had previously had our comments. From day one, we have consistently maintained that the rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue would be completed in November. We can once again emphasise that the pledge we made to the public from the start stands, and we will finish the work by the end of November,” Irakli Bendeliani said.

According to the Deputy Mayor, representatives of a specific political party purposefully spread this information, aiming to generate negative publicity for Tbilisi City Hall and its departments.

Irakli Bendeliani also clarified that around ten companies are working on the avenue’s rehabilitation, and even if modifications are made to a contract with any single provider, it will not affect the deadline for the project’s completion.

“To make it clearer for the public, I want to emphasise that multiple companies are working on Rustaveli Avenue. These are not just road construction firms; around ten companies are operating here, each with its own deadlines, scope of work, and detailed schedule. Any adjustments made to individual contracts, scope expansions, or unforeseen delays are simply part of the operational process. Despite all this, we will keep our promise to the public that the work will be completed by the end of November. We will indeed finish the work by late November,” Irakli Bendeliani noted.

The Deputy Mayor called on representatives of the specific political party and media outlets to cease spreading misinformation intended to mislead the public.
