Deputy Interior Minister attends International Migration Review Forum at the United Nations Headquarters in New York
The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, took part in the second International Migration Review Forum, held at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the event included a multilateral, roundtable-style dialogue and a plenary session, during which representatives from international organisations and member states evaluated the progress in implementing the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.
“In his speech at the roundtable, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze focused on Georgia’s current asylum legislation and recent legislative amendments. He highlighted that one of the Ministry’s key priorities is combating illegal migration, emphasising that recent legislative changes have enhanced Georgia’s Law on International Protection and strengthened expulsion procedures. The Deputy Minister also discussed Georgia’s successful experience in readmission agreements and the progress made in this area,” the MIA stated.
The Ministry further explained that the International Migration Review Forum is a principal intergovernmental platform for member states to exchange information and assess progress in the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.
The Georgian delegation in New York, comprising representatives from various government agencies, is led by Deputy Minister of Justice Giorgi Dgebuadze.
