Deputy Economy Minister: Vaziani International Airport project enters new development phase

“The Vaziani International Airport project is moving into a new stage of development,” stated Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tamar Ioseliani.

The Deputy Minister stated that German firm amd.sigma is conducting a comprehensive feasibility study with the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

“The study will be drawn up in full compliance with international standards, enabling us to anchor our long-term decisions on sound technical and economic calculations. This is of paramount importance to ensure the proper development of the Vaziani International Airport project. Georgia’s aviation sector is experiencing steady growth, yielding record-breaking figures across all metrics in recent years. It is precisely this trajectory that forms the foundation for developing a new airport capable of serving 20 million passengers, which is slated to become operational from 2032,” noted Tamar Ioseliani.

She added that the new airport will further enhance the country’s connectivity.

“This project will undoubtedly allow us to boost Georgia’s connectivity and reinforce our position as a bridge between Europe and Asia. Consequently, it will secure access to key global markets and expand our capacity to handle both passenger traffic and cargo while delivering world-class aviation services,” Ioseliani stated.

According to the Ministry of Economy, active preparation is underway on the feasibility study for the new Tbilisi International Airport, conducted by international consulting firm amd.sigma strategic airport development GmbH.
