Defense Ministry urges citizens and political union members not to try to involve armed forces in a political or election campaign
It is totally unacceptable for the Defense Ministry and state interests to use the military uniform for political purposes and attempt to politicize the army, – reads the statement of the Defense Ministry made in response to the statement of former military servicemen.
According to the Defense Ministry, the political address released by persons wearing military uniform aimed at misleading the public.
“We would like to respond to the statement of former military servicemen, in particular, the statement of General Devi Tchankotadze made at the Mukhatgverdi brothers’ cemetery. First of all, we would like to clarify that Devi Tchankotadze and those accompanying him are not active military personnel, and have not served in the armed forces for years.
The political address released by persons wearing military uniform aimed at misleading the public. It is totally unacceptable for the Defense Ministry and state interests to use the military uniform for political purposes and attempt to politicize the army. This action harms Georgian Armed Forces and humiliates each military man” – the statement released by Defense Ministry reads.
The Ministry of Defense emphasizes that the Georgian Armed Forces are a politically neutral state institution and do not participate in political processes.
Accordingly, the agency urges citizens and political union members not to try to involve armed forces in a political or election campaign in any form.
