Defense Minister inspects ongoing construction works at military bases

The improvement of military bases and infrastructure projects within the Georgian Defense Forces are progressing rapidly, the Ministry of Defense announced.

Minister of Defense Irakli Chikovani, together with the Commander of the Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Giorgi Matiashvili, inspected the ongoing construction works at several locations and received detailed information about the current stages of implementation.

The officials visited the new military base of the Special Operations Command in Mukhrovani, where large-scale construction works are nearing completion.

According to the Ministry, the construction of barracks, training facilities, a ranger school, canteen, infirmary, multifunctional sports field, car park, storage facilities, heliport, boiler rooms, and both internal and external repair works are almost finished.

“The second phase of the project will begin in the near future and will include the installation of internal communications and improvement of the surrounding territory. The modern Special Operations Command Center encompasses the rehabilitation of 24 new and 3 existing buildings. Upon completion, the facility will serve as the new base for the Special Operations Command,” the Ministry stated.

Chikovani and Matiashvili also inspected construction at the new location of the Aviation and Air Defense Command. The site already includes the headquarters of the command, brigade, and three battalions, as well as four barracks, a canteen, a hospital, a gym, and training classrooms — all of which are undergoing internal and external renovation.

The project has now entered its second stage, focusing on communications installation and external landscaping works.
