Davit Matikashvili: Saakashvili’s so-called leadership set the country on a path to ruin, and in opposition, he did everything to hold society back
“Mikheil Saakashvili and the radical fifth column have no reason to rejoice. They should look closely at what is happening in Serbia and Hungary, at the opposition forces that won there, and at their overall political approach and spirit,” said MP Davit Matikashvili, chair of Parliament’s Procedural Issues Committee.
He said Saakashvili “should also consider that he is increasingly confessing to, and openly testifying about, crimes committed on his orders”.
“I mean the Roin Shavadze issue, where Saakashvili practically admitted directly to giving the order for the physical elimination of a Georgian serviceman. In doing so, he handed our colleagues at the Constitutional Court another argument. As for leadership, Saakashvili’s so-called leadership set the country on the road to ruin, and then, once in opposition, he did everything to stop our society from moving forward. Had it not been for the great wisdom of the Georgian people, Bidzina Ivanishvili and Georgian Dream, Saakashvili and his foreign-agent force would of course have returned to power. These people would once again have unleashed a bloodbath in the country, as they did more than once while in power,” Matikashvili said.
Former President Mikheil Saakashvili wrote: “This is no time to sideline anyone. The country’s real leader, or leaders, must be made use of, bearing in mind that the leader is in prison.”
