Davit Bakradze is skeptical about sending European Parliament’s fact-finding mission to Georgia

Davit Bakradze, leader of European Georgia, says he is skeptical about sending a European Parliament’s fact-finding mission to Georgia to study the case of Gigi Ugulava.

“As for the mission of the European Parliament, we are very skeptical about it due to several reasons. First – when a person is already in prison by the decision of Supreme Court we do not see the specific workload of this commission. Such a commission and such a mission should come when the trial is proceeding, and not when the person is already in custody under the signature of Tadumadze. Secondly, there is such a precedent when, in 2013, OSCE / ODIHR observers monitored trials, political processes and wrote extremely negative reports, in which the processes were subjected to harsh criticism both in terms of the legal and procedural aspects. The “Georgian Dream” did not pay any attention to this conclusion, nor did it to the decision of the European Court regarding Vano Merabishvili’s case”, – Davit Bakradze said

The ruling Georgian Dream Party proposes European Parliament to send a fact-finding mission to Georgia to study the case of Gigi Ugulava, former Tbilisi Mayor and one of the leaders of oppositional European Georgia Party.

Later, the Party of European Socialists (PES) released a statement, according to which PES supports the proposal to send a fact-finding mission of members of European Parliament from the main political families in the European Parliament to Georgia to further investigate the case of Gigi Ugulava.
