Court sentences eight defendants to five years in prison over October 4 case
Tbilisi City Court has delivered its verdict against eight individuals detained in connection with the October 4 case.
The court sentenced Zurab Chavchanidze, Vladimer Gvelesiani, Amiran Dolishvili, Anton Vardanidze, Alexandre Chilachava, Genadi Kupreishvili, Sulkhan Tughushi, and Ramaz Mamuladze to five years in prison each.
The defendants were charged with participating in group violence and attempting to seize a strategic facility of special importance as part of an organised group. These offences carry a maximum sentence of up to six years in prison.
A total of 14 individuals were charged in connection with this specific episode. Six of them, Giorgi Korkia, Giorgi Rurua, Khvicha Gogokhia, Levan Jikia, Lasha Ivanadze, and Sergo Megrelishvili, reached plea bargains and were released from the courtroom.
