Court sends Japaridze's attacker behind bars

Gori District Court on Monday sent an assailant of Zurab Japaridze, the leader of the Girchi – More Freedom opposition party, behind bars.

Judge Davit Makaradze fully satisfied the petition of the prosecutor’s office.

Defense lawyers argued for the release of the accused without preventative measures or on bail.

The accused attended the proceedings as well. He pleads guilty.

The pre-trial hearing has been slated for July 24.

On June 17, the individual attacked Japaridze for his statements and activities in the supermarket on the Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze highway.
