Conference on Re-socialization of Inmates adopts Tbilisi Declaration

The session of the Conference on Innovations in the Process of Rehabilitation and Re-socialization of Inmates and Probationers adopted a 12-point Tbilisi Declaration, reflecting the modern approaches and practices in managing the penitentiary system.

Justice Minister Rati Bregadze summed up the conference, expressing hope that the event would give the basis for successful and prolific cooperation.

According to Deputy Minister Beka Dzamashvili, other countries could use the document for reforming their penitentiary systems.

“The document describes the innovative approaches introduced by Georgia, be it online learning or justice houses’ opening in the penitentiary system. The Tbilisi Declaration will be a document that various countries could use to implement the reforms in the penitentiary system,” he said.
